Dr Erin Crowley-Champoux

Dr. Erin Crowley-Champoux (she/her) earned a B.A. in history at Bates College (Lewiston, ME) and a Ph.D. in anthropological archaeology from the University of Minnesota. Between undergrad and grad school, she lived and worked on Long Island, ME as a Community Planning and Development Fellow with the Island Institute and AmeriCorps.
 
She has worked on archaeological projects in the Eastern and Midwestern US (NJ, ME, MD, and MN), Ireland, and Peru since 2007. Most recently, she was a supervisor for the Dún Ailinne Archaeological Field School in Co. Kildare, Ireland from 2018-2025. Her research examines agricultural economies, the relationship between humans and animals, food and foodways, and community development. From 2023-2024 she had a postdoc at University College Dublin on the FOODSEC Project, exploring storage and food security in Bronze Age Ireland. From 2024-2025 she worked with University of Maryland Extension, Maryland Sea Grant, and NOAA on an engaged environmental anthropology project focused on extreme weather and hazard preparedness. She is now a lecturer at McDaniel College in the History and Art History Department, teaching courses on premodern history and archaeology.

Outside of work, her interests include cooking/food and fermentation projects (including brewing), travel, and spending time with her husband, Alexander Champoux-Crowley, and their dogs, Huxley and Boswell.
