Nicholas Brown (B.A. 2011, University of California, Santa Barbara; M.A. 2016, The American University in Cairo; Ph.D. 2024, University of California, Los Angeles) is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Yale University. An Egyptologist who has worked in Egypt since 2011, his research focuses on royal funerary rituals and burial rites in New Kingdom Egypt (ca. 1550–1070 BC), with particular emphasis on the archaeological and textual remains from the Valley of the Kings.
His fieldwork spans sites throughout Egypt and Sudan, and he currently co-directs excavations at Deir el-Ballas alongside Peter Lacovara, investigating the archaeology of urbanism and daily life at this ancient royal palace and military outpost. His forthcoming monograph, The Falcon Has Flown: Funerary Ritual and Burial Rites in the Valley of the Kings, expands on his doctoral research. Dr. Brown divides his time between New Haven, Connecticut and Cairo, Egypt.
